While we're sure your dog will want to scoff the whole bag, treats should be limited as part of a balanced diet and not overfed. Ensure that fresh drinking water is always readily available. Make sure that your dogs' treats are appropriately sized for them, breaking into smaller pieces if needed. Dogs should be supervised at all times whilst feeding. We recommend feeding on a non-stainable surface. Not suitable for puppies under 4 months old.

Q & A

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding VioVet® Natural Dog Treats Chicken Breast Fillets, including answers from our team.

Trip

Jayne

Can the tripe treats be cut into smaller pieces for training

  • VioVet Staff

Hi Jayne,

I've just tried to cut our dried tripe and I'm afraid it would be very difficult due to the texture - they're great as dental treats and longer lasting chews but would be too hard to cut up into small bites for training treats. By dogs were delighted to get an extra treat after watcing my efforts though!

We have a range of bite-size Training Treats, which include a Buffalo flavour (our tripe is Buffalo tripe), and we also have other dried meat treats that would be easy to tear or cut into smaller pieces as they are softer:

VioVet Chicken Strips
VioVet Duck Breast Fillets
VioVet Chicken & Fish Strips

Another great natural option would be Lily's Kitchen Little Liver Rewards, although I'm afraid they only come in small pack sizes.

I hope this is helpful and you find something your dog will love :-)

Where are they sourced?

shauna

Hi, my dogs are fed naturally and these treats looks great. But can you tell me where the meat is sourced please? I refuse to buy treats 'made in china'

Many thanks

  • VioVet Staff

All of our meat is sourced from EU farms.

Shelf life

Steve Maxted

  • VioVet customer since 2020

pup arriving in 6 weeks. If I buy now in advance, what is the shelf life unopened?
Also, once opened, how long can I store them?

  • VioVet Staff

We re-stock our Natural Range regularly so all the lines should have fairly long expiry dates at any point you purchase. At the moment most expiry dates are between Feb & December next year.

They bags are all resealable so you can squeeze out the air and store / use them up to the expiry date if kept in a cool dry place.

Age

Mia

Hello, we have a Rhodesian ridgeback pup at 8 weeks atm. At what age would you recommend that we can give these to our pup? Thank you.

  • VioVet Staff

Hi Mia,

You can start using them now - I would recommend maybe the chicken or duck strips cut into smaller pieces for training treats (or even try our bite size meaty Training Treats), or you lcan leave them whole and hopefully they'll keep him entertained for a little while! The Chicken Breast Fillets are bigger and take more chewing, and if you'd like something that's more of a challenge, the Tripe sticks will last the longest :-)

Introduce new treats slowly - maybe just one strip or fillet per day to begin with so his gut gets used to any changes. We wouldn't expect there to be a problem but this should minimise any chances if he is a bit sensitive.

Hope this helps :-)

Calories?

Julie

Hi there
My dog has early-stage arthritis in both stifles so I'm watching his diet and weight. He's a fussy eater but loves the dried chicken strips. It would be helpful to know the calorie content per 100 gms.

  • VioVet Staff

Hello,

Thank you for your question.

I do apologise for the delay in getting back to you. There is approximately 220 calories per 100g.

I do hope this helps.

Val

COULD YOU TELL ME PLEASE HOW LONG THE TRAINING TREAT KEEP FRESH FOR AFTER OPENING AND HOW MANY DO YOU RECOMMEND A DAY ALSO THE DUCK AND CHICKEN DRIED STICKS. FINN IS A YORKIE AND WEIGHS 6 kG.

  • VioVet Staff

Hi Val,

Our treats have resealable bags, so they will stay fresher for longer and you can use them up to the expiry date printed on the packs. If the bag does last a long time the Training Treats may become slightly firmer due to moisture evaporating but they will still be safe for your dog.

Both types of treats are naturally high in protein and low in fat, so you shouldn't need to worry about quantities too much - you can adjust to suit your dog.

I have a 6.5kg terrier and he usually gets 2-3 dried chicken/duck strips per day and when we go on walks he'll probably get around 10. I often break the training treats in half too for training sessions :-) You can adjust to give more or less depending on your dog's activity levels and whether they usually gain weight easily. Stewie doesn't gain weight easily so I can feed them fairly freely.

Hope this helps & he loves his new treats!

Kind regards,
Danielle

Are the treats just air dried

Rebecca

Hi are these treats heated as well as air dried to reduce bacterial loading. I have a dog that is having chemo, so needs to avoid ‘raw’ freeze dried treats, due to his reduced immune system. But would love to have something other than biscuit treats. Are these cooked at all?

  • VioVet Staff

Hi Rebecca,

Thanks very much for getting in touch. Our dried treats are produced by gradually drying in heated chambers, and high temperatures reached in the drying process which will greatly reduce the bacteria in comparison to raw treats. The dried tripe we have is also passed through a gamma radiation machine after drying to kill bacteria so should be very safe too.

I hope this helps and you find something your dog loves! You can get 10% off our whole Own Brand range including the treats until midnight Sunday 17th Feb with the code VLOVE :-)

Best wishes,

Danielle

Hi..are they suitable for 8 week old puppies

  • VioVet Staff

Hi Catherine,

Yes these are suitable - for smaller breeds I'd recommend the Chicken Strips as they can be easily broken into smaller pieces, or given whole as a chew. The Chicken Breast fillets will take them longer to eat so would be good when they're teething too.

Any of the products would be suitable though :-)

Kind regards,

Danielle

Diabetes

Macfarlane

are these treats suitable for diabetic dogs and if not what else is suitable

  • VioVet Staff

Hello!

Thank you for your question,

One of the natural preservatives in our treats could possibly have some effect on blood sugars. As we cannot say for sure, we would advise to rather choose a freeze dried treat as these do not need to use any extra preservatives due to the freeze drying process. One of our most popular freeze dried treats are the Thrive ProReward which are 100% meat or liver, without any preservatives.

I hope this helps!

Tripe

John Robertson

  • VioVet customer since 2017
  • From: East Ayrshire, United Kingdom

How long will tripe treat keep once open

  • VioVet Staff

Hi John,

The tripe is dried so will last very well once opened. I still keep mine in air tight tupperware as it smells very strong, but you could roll down the top/wrap the bag tightly and put a big elastic band around it instead if you don't have a container big enough. If kept in a cool, dry place, there should be no problem if it takes your dog a few months to get through the bag.

I hope your dogs enjoy our tripe sticks! :-)

Kind regards,

Danielle
