Certain nutrients can help to support cats with Chronic Renal Insufficiency, which is why the diet you choose for your cat is key for supporting their overall health and wellbeing.
ROYAL CANIN® Renal is a wet food product that is specifically tailored to support adult cats with Chronic Renal Insufficiency. When cats’ kidneys are not functioning efficiently, that often means that phosphorus cannot effectively be filtered from the blood stream. ROYAL CANIN® Renal provides a low phosphorus content and a number of high-quality proteins to help support kidney health and function. Cats with kidney disease may have a reduced appetite or experience food aversion.
ROYAL CANIN® Renal has an adapted energy content which helps to reduce the volume of your cat’s meal, ultimately supporting their reduced appetite. To further support your cat’s reduced appetite, ROYAL CANIN® Renal contains a specific aromatic profile to appeal to your cat’s individual preferences and help to stimulate their appetite. To cater to each cat’s individual preferences, ROYAL CANIN® Renal comes in a variety of formulations: beef, fish, and chicken.
It is also available as a dry food product with tailor-made kibble. If your cat enjoys a mixed diet of wet and dry food, be sure to reference the on-pack feeding guides to ensure a healthy daily food intake for your cat. ROYAL CANIN® Renal Veterinary diets for cats are formulated to help support cats with Chronic Renal Insufficiency. Each formula in the ROYAL CANIN® Renal Support range contains specific nutrients to provide your cat with a complete and balanced diet.

It's a good product, but my cat isn't wild about it.
Like most renal cat food, it's not as tasty as non renal catfood.
However, my cat will eat the chicken flavour if I put the Royal Canin renal biscuits on top.

My cats both have kidney disease, one for 14 years! She has always had this food, she still eats it all, she’s only now at the age of 18 coming in to stage 3. My other cat has only just started on this food, she loves it just as much.
What is there to lose? Looks good, cats love it, and it does the job helping the cats suffering with kidney issues.

this was a great idea to make the dry food different with the inside bit.
As Bilbo is diabetic and has kidney disease these are a great asset as if he not hungry 30 minutes before his insulin injecion, i just put a bowl of these under his nose and he has a good feed, he has them about the house but he prefares when hand fed

My cat is a very fussy eater with kidney problems. It’s early days but he seems to love the royal canin food packs, although expensive knowing it’s good for his kidneys will hopefully will give him a longer life.

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding ROYAL CANIN® Renal Adult Wet Cat Food, including answers from our team.
Juliet Wallis
My cat is 17 and thin and has had lots of teeth removed and has kidney weakness. How much food should he be eating per day, please.?
You should only be using this diet alongside veterinary advice. It is intended for use in cats with kidney disease so it is likely suitable however only your vet is able to confirm this.
You should follow the package guidelines regarding the amount to feed. This will be based on the weight of your cat.

is R C renal adult wet chicken cat food ok for a cat with pancreatitis?
It is usually advised to feed low fat diets to a pet with pancreatitis. This Renal food does have a relatively low fat content however it is not the most ideal food for a cat with pancreatitis. If your pet is suffering from both kidney disease and pancreatitis then it is strongly advised you contact your vet for tailored dietary advice, it is likely you will need to feed for one disease rather than the other. It is important that you feed for the condition that is most affecting your pet and your vet can advise which of these is best to prioritise.

One of our cats...Sweetie,,, has just switched to a renal diet at the suggestion of our vet following blood tests. We have no problem with the RC dry kibbles as she accepts them readily.
She is far more fussy like many cats with the renal wet food which we have tried to introduce gradually. She will not touch the Renal with fish (thin pieces in gravy). My wife says she has slowly accepted Renal Chicken loaf, which I cannot see on your product list. Loaf is shown but I don't see a flavour.
Can you advise?
Thank You.
The Renal Loaf contains poultry as well as pork and salmon. There is no chicken flavoured Loaf in particular, there is only one flavour of Renal Loaf so it is highly likely your cat had this.
You can feed only dry food if your cat prefers. Ensure there is a good access to fresh water and it should not be an issue giving dry instead of wet to a cat with renal disease, as long as it is the renal dry you are using. I recommend running this past your vet first though.
