Palladia is used to treat intermediate and high grade mast cell tumours affecting the skin of dogs if they cannot be surgically removed. Palladia tablets are normally given on alternate days, with or without food. Palladia can be given for as long as it remains effective at preventing further growth of the tumour and as long as no significant side effects occur. A number of side effects are possible, including abnormalities affecting the blood and ulceration of the gut lining. It is important that ongoing veterinary assessment is maintained to ensure that treatment is effective and appropriate. This will include blood tests as well as physical examination. If side effects are beginning to appear, reducing the dose of Palladia or temporarily withdrawing medication might resolve the side effects. Palladia is very effective for some dogs, but does not work in all cases. If the tumour is progressing despite treatment, Palladia is unlikely to be of benefit and treatment should be stopped.

How do you review a cancer mitigation drug? The dog eats them, has no side effects and is still alive.

This has been prescribed by my vet for my dog and so far is proving to be very effective.

My big staffie has been on Palladia for just under 3 weeks now. I keep looking …. but not noticed any change in the size of the tumour - but don’t think it’s getting any bigger.
He seems to be managing well with the meds. Maybe a bit hungrier and thirstier and a bit more lethargic. Still enjoying walks. We were advised by vet to put him on a canine probiotic which he gets first thing every morning. He’s not been sick and had mild diarrhoea once.
Only time will tell what’s happening with the cancer but I’m pleased to give him a fighting chance with this medication.

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Palladia Tablets for Dogs, including answers from our team.

I have a prescription for 36 x 15 mg tablets. (4 week's supply) with 5 repeats. Can I order 2 x 20 x 15 mg tablets at a time?
As long as your prescription has not expired by the time you order again, then yes you can order up to the maximum quantity in as many smaller orders as you wish. We cannot dispense a total that is more than the total prescribed though (which is 216 tablets according to your description).
If ordering 2 x 20 tablets at a time then you could place a total of 5 of these orders before we would need a new script. Any remaining tablets on the script (in this case 16) can go towards a future order with a new script, as long as the script is still in date.

Should Palladia be stored in the refrigerator?
Hello Dennis,
The Palladia datasheet states that "Palladia does not require any special storage conditions."
I hope this helps.

Is Palladia first line for mct in poodles?
What other agents are used instead?
Thank you...

The best treatment is surgical removal where possible. Only if this is not feasible for some reason is it sensible to try medication of any sort. Palladia is a good choice to try, but your vet who is familiar with all aspects of your dog's condition and other health considerations is in the best position to decide.
