55 Great food

From research this seems to be one of the top two kibbles available to buy. My puppy adapted well to this food which I weaned her on to from the kibble she had been fed on in her first 8 weeks. She has always loved this food and been very eager for meal times. She has had no adverse affects and her stools have been firm and regular. Her physique is perfect and her coat shiny. Now she is 12 months I shall be moving her onto the adult version of this product without hesitation.

Q & A

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Orijen Puppy Grain Free Food, including answers from our team.

My Cockapoo is 17 months old

Bertie

My Cockapoo is a fussy eater should I continue to offer him origens puppy .
His weight is under 9 kg

  • VioVet Staff

At 17 months old it is advised to start transitioning your Cockapoo onto an adult Orijen diet. If you do this slowly then the 'fussy-ness' should not be an issue. Start by feeding 10% of the adult food and 90% of the puppy diet, all mixed together. Than over 5 to 7 days gradually build this and transition to 100% of the adult version.
If your dog is particularly active and not overweight then you can continue the puppy version, it is safe for use in adults but it can predipose to weight gain.

When is a spaniel too old for puppy food?

Sparkly

I’m just wondering when I should switch my working cocker to the Original Orijen instead. He’s eight months now and has been on the puppy version since 12 weeks.

  • VioVet Staff

It is advised to switch your pup onto an adult food when they are fully grown. For a Spaniel this will be between 12 and 15 months of age.
You should check the packaging of your food as well to confirm if there is a specific age the brand you have advises.

Border collie puppy 8 weeks

what size puppy food for a bor

which size puppy food for8 week old border collie?

  • VioVet Staff

This diet is appropriate for all sizes and breeds of puppy. The bag size you need will depend on how much feed you want to buy at once. If you are trying out the food it may be best to buy a small bag initially as a taster, if that goes well then the larger bags are better value in terms of food per £.

Older Puppy

Gill

What Orijen food is suitable for a 10month old crossbreed - hound type- male (unneutered) weighing 17.35kg.?

  • VioVet Staff

The Orijen Whole Prey Puppy Food should be perfectly suited to your dog. However the difference between this food and the other Orijen foods (for adults) is not huge and personally I would be quite relaxed about feeding any of them to your dog. It has become a big marketing technique among the dog food manufacturers to produce different foods for the various life-stages of dogs. This has more genuine benefit for much older dogs, but puppies tend to do very well on the standard adult food as well. Your dog has completed most of its growing now, so you could go onto an adult food anyway, though Orijen recommend using a puppy food for up to 2 years.
