Gilbey is almost 7 years old so is beginning to slow down for a boxer! She is not a greedy dog and is much more interested in playing and cuddles than food but with Hills Science Plan Adult 5+ she never leaves a scrap of food in her bowl. The food she was on before didn't seem to fill her up and she seemed constantly hungry...not on Hills Science Plan Adult 5+. Her coat is soft, her nose is cold and she exudes good health.

Nell now 32 kgs after a year of weight loss on Hills prescription weight reduction dog food. Not sure what to put her on now she is at her best weight and to maintain her there.
She also has some difficulties with arthritis hence the weight loss and for now no need for surgery. She walks and runs for up to 4 hours a day 6+ miles.
Been impressed with Hills food during the diet but seems confusing when I've looked through their maintenance options because of age.
Until diet she ate Royal Canin and Chappies or Pedigree Chum. She's not fussy at all. Hope you can help.
There are many possibilities that would be suitable. At 7 years old it is worth considering a senior diet for your flat coated retriever. This Hills Science Plan Senior Large Breed diet would be suitable.
If your dog has arthritis then it is also advised to use a joint supplement. I recommend checking out our blog 'Arthritis i pets - prevention and management' for possible options and other helpful tips.

Riff is a 10 year old labrador, slightly overweight, slowing down and reluctant to jump into the boot of the car (he can manage on an outward journey but after a walk he is slightly distressed at the prospect of jumping that high and ends up on the back seat of the car). He is given daily joint supplements. I am considering changing to Hills - which costs more than his current food - do I need to give him joint supplements too? Thanks in advance.
This Senior diet does contain some beneficial ingredients for the joint already within it, these include Glucosamine, Chondroitin and Omega 3/6 Fatty Acids. I recommend checking the ingredients within the joint supplement you use. You may find there are additional ingredients within the supplement that are worth continuing for, such as Hyaluronic Acid, Boswellia or MSM. If these are included then it is worth using both. As long as you follow the packaging recommendations then they should be safe to use together. You may be double dosing on the Glucosamine/Chondroitin but in a senior dog it is often advised to give an increase dose of joint supplement anyway.
