Canine Atopic Dermatitis Immunotherapeutic
For Use in Dogs Only
Cytopoint™ aids in the reduction of clinical signs associated with atopic dermatitis in dogs.
Cytopoint™ is a ready-to-use, sterile liquid containing a caninized monoclonal antibody (mAb) against interleukin-31 (IL-31). IL-31 has been shown to induce pruritus in dogs in laboratory studies.
Cytopoint™ remains in circulation for several weeks. It exerts a therapeutic effect by binding to and neutralizing soluble IL-31, thus inhibiting pruritus and reducing skin lesions. Like other naturally-occurring antibodies and antibody-antigen complexes, elimination is via normal protein degradation pathways.
SAFETY: A field safety study has demonstrated that Cytopoint™ is well tolerated in dogs after subcutaneous injection. Adverse events occurred at a similar frequency between treated and placebo groups in a study of 245 canine patients presented to veterinary hospitals and diagnosed with atopic dermatitis. In this study, dogs were administered Cytopoint™ (1.0-3.3 mg/kg body weight) or placebo by the subcutaneous route on Days 0 and 28. Signs of patient discomfort on administration and adverse events occurred at a similar frequency between treatment groups. In addition, there was no clinically important difference in clinical pathology changes between groups following either dose. A wide variety of concomitant medications were safely used, including parasiticides, antibiotics, antifungals, corticosteroids, vaccines, immunotherapy, antihistamines and other antipruritics, such as oclacitinib and cyclosporine.

My dog has had skin issues since he was a puppy, he is 10 now. We have had numerous specialist visits etc. He did the whole food allergy testing as he loat practically all his hair. We have been using this for a good number of years and his fur is silky smooth and when he starts scratching a lot we give him an injection which eases it.

This is the only way we have found of permitting our dog to live a normal happy life, unhindered by allergies or the disagreeable side effects of steroids

This was the first time that I had bought this product, as I would usually order it through the vet.
I was a little nervous, but I didn't need to be. Cytopoint needs to be kept in fridge, and It needed to be delivered to the vets directly, otherwise they wouldn't administering it.
The process was well organised, with the deliver confirmed to be made before midday.
I have a further two doses to be made up by Viovet, but they will issue these when I request them.

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Cytopoint, including answers from our team.
How often do the injections need to be given?
The datasheet for this medication states it is for monthly use.

My dog has unknown allergies, he's currently on steroids. His allergies make him itchy and come out in hotspots but also a very bad consistent cough. I'm wondering if this would help with that too?
Cytopoint is indicated for the treatment of pruritus associated with allergic dermatitis and the treatment of clinical manifestations of atopic dermatitis in dogs.
The itching and hot spots can be a sign of this but coughing is not a standard sign of the above. Therefore the coughing is possibly unrelated, you should discuss this with your prescribing vet as the cause of this may need treating.

I’m asking about this as my dog has just started this medication from my vet but would like to give it at home
Needles and syringes are not included with this medication. It is best to contact your vet to discuss what your individual dog will require, you can then find these on our website for purchase.
If you would like specific advice on what sizes your dog needs then please get in touch at [email protected] mentioning your dog breed/weight and the medication you are using.

Hello,
My vet wrote 3 vials on the prescription and not an even number. How should I go about ordering as it appears vials are only available in boxes of 2?
Many thanks.
This product only comes in boxes of two unfortunately. However the extra vial that is not purchased will be kept on your script and it can contribute to future orders placed with us. For example, if you get another script for 3 vials and your current one is not expired then you can use both to receive a total of 3 boxes.

She is just under 29kgs & 10 years old
Cytopoint definitely got rid of a lot of her scaly patches
Had hair loss
She’s on her 3rd 40mg injection today
How long will she need to have them
This medication relieves the signs of allergic or atopic dermatitis. These conditions are present as long as the triggers are still present, your dog may need the medication lifelong if the triggers cannot be removed (e.g. grass allergy). It is best discussing this with your vet as they may have an idea of what these are for your specific dog.

My vet has suggested worst case scenario my dog may need Cytapoint and the cost is way beyond us. However the vet has said they can show us how to administer and we could order 6 months medication to save money. However, I am not clear on the cost as it says two vials and 1 x 10mg so I am not clear on what I need to purchase for her. If she needs one pack every 6 months then unfortunately this works out more expensive than the vet. If she only needs one pack every 2 months then this is half the cost and a bit more doable for us. Can you clarify for me please?
This medication is dispensed in packs of 2. The price listings on the site are for a pack of 2 vials, so yes you will need to order 1 pack every 2 months.

My St Bernard weighs 64.9 KG so what volume of drug do I need to purchase?
If I have to buy more than required to give at one time will the excess keep in a temperature controlled environment?
Will a refrigerator, at 4 degrees, be a suitable storage place?
This is a prescription only medication so you will need to chat to your prescribing vet to see if the product is appropriate for your dog.
According to the datasheet a 64.9kg dog will need 1 x 30mg and 1 x 40mg vial injected per dose. This product must be stored between 2 and 8C, these are refridgerator conditions so storing in a fridge is fine. Our temperature controlled packaging ensures the medication will arrive temporarily within these storage conditions, it can then be stored in the fridge until the product expiry date as per the bottle itself.

My Bichon has been on Apoquel for months now it is working out expensive. My vet has suggesed Cypopoint does this work? Thank you
Cytopoint is indicated for the treatment of pruritus associated with allergic
dermatitis and the treatment of clinical manifestations of atopic
dermatitis in dogs. All medications that are licensed for use in animals have passed their marketing authorisation and so will have been proven to work effectively in their target species. Some of this research from the datasheet is pasted below:
In a laboratory model study lokivetmab demonstrated an onset of
efficacy for pruritus by the first time point at 8 hours post
administration.
In field studies up to 9 months, treatment of dogs with atopic
dermatitis was demonstrated to have a favourable effect on the reduction
of pruritus and on the reduction of disease severity as evaluated by
Canine Atopic Dermatitis Extent and Severity Index (CADESI) 03 scores. A
small number of dogs showed a low or an absence of clinical response to
lokivetmab. This is likely due to the highly targeted mechanism of
action of lokivetmab in the context of a complex disease and
heterogeneous pathogenesis.

Can anyone who has used this product please give some input was it effective how often do you use etc. My dog has been on Apoquel for last 18months between 4/6 tabs daily as she is 74 kg. Was recommended this instead of apoquel so would like some feedback from people who are in similar situation
I am Nick, one of the vets here. I have used this product in clinical practice on patients and I can confirm it is very effective at reducing the itch response in dogs affected by allergic or atopic dermatitis. If your dog is on Apoquel for allergies then it will have a very similar effect as it acts on a similar neural pathway. Cytopoint does not have anti-inflammatory affects like Apoquel though, it is worth discussing with your vet which would be most appropriate for your pet.
