Teddy lost his sister April 22 and has really suffered. Our vet recommended this and he has stopped waking up every night crying and following us everywhere around the house, he seems much calmer.

I had to move my cats on a 7 hour drive to live in a friends house with another cat. They refused tranquillisers and I wasn’t happy about using them anyway. I supplemented them with calmex a week beforehand to make sure it agreed with them and I have to say they coped better than i thought they would as they are terrible travellers. Once in the new house they hid all day until I gave them their evening dose and the difference was clear. They would come out of hiding a few hours afterwards.

Fireworks, thunder or a change of circumstance can make Tammy very stressy but Calmex is very safe works quickly and clearly makes her settle and feel more comfortable.

Can this be used in Guinea pigs to help with stress induced cystitis?
This product is not licensed for use in Guinea Pigs and so it is not advised for this use. I recommend using a Guinea Pig friendly calmer like Pet Remedy instead.

My cat is already on Cbd oil for separation anxiety but also has some absence type symptoms on waking from deep sleep which the vets feel is behavioural not neurological. They told me to give it in one dose at the opposite time of day to Cbd— is this ok? She has been on calmex (which she loves, her three brothers try and steal it!) for 30 days and so far, no ‘episodes’. Is it ok to take long term? Also does it work as one off double dose for issues such as claw cutting. Her brother has gabapentin at home for this but I’d love him to come off it, thanks
There is not any information readily available regarding the use of Calmex with CBD oil. It is likely this is safe but it cannot be guaranteed. We recommend following your vet's advice regarding the trreatment plan for your cats.
Yes Calmex can be used as a one off before a specific event like nail clipping. It should be given at least 1 to 2 hours before the event itself. For maximum effect you can start the product at the twice daily dosing regime a day or two before and continue this throughout the event.

Is giving this safe to use in a pregnant or lactating cat please?
While I’m asking in relation to a cat, others may want to know for a dog too!
Thank you

How soon befor travel should I give our basset calmex ? He has cronic travel anxiety. Is there anything else that we can use along with calmed? A friend suggested adaptil?
Hi Helen,
You need to administer the dose 30-60 minutes before the desired effect is required.
Hope this helps.

I have an 8.6kg shih tzu
What would his dosage be - how many tablets and how often can I give him his tablets
We have a very long car journey 6-7+ hrs
The dose for your dog would be half a capsule given 30-60 minutes before the start of your journey. The dose can be given twice daily. Supplements like this seem to be very effective for some dogs and not at all for others. If your dog gets particularly anxious travelling it may be worth speaking to your vet about something stronger.

How long does the product last once taken?
This will normally be for a few hours, but it varies between different animals, with some showing a more obvious effect than others. Very excited animals may not show an obvious response at all, especially when stressed.

I was wondering can I use the calmex tablets along side adaptil products such as the diffusers and collar ?
Yes you can safely do this and sometimes combining products with very different modes of action can work well. As with all products like this, you will not really know what the results will be until you try them. It could be worth a try.

My cat has a problem with stress, he often over grooms and sometimes urine marks inside my house! I currently give him Zylkene which doesn't make much difference to his behaviour, have also tried Feliway, did not work either. Would Calmex be more suitable?
This is a difficult problem to treat because the causes for the stress vary between cats and some individuals will respond better to one treatment than another, but not all cats will respond to the same product. Generally I find that the Feliway products are the most effective, but you might need to provide a diffuser for each room.
It is worth bearing in mind that the most stressful thing to a cat is usually another cat. It is sometimes possible to try and think of things from your cat's point of view and reduce the amount of stress they feel from neighbour's cats, or indeed your own other cats if you have any. Re-positioning things like food bowls, litter trays and sleeping areas can help sometimes.

My bitch is feeding 7 puppies at the moment, she's gett very stressed when possible buyers come and visit could I use calmex on her??
It is safe to give Calmex to lactating bitches and it might well help. I would suggest using an Adaptil diffuser in the room too, which is completely safe and certainly helps some dogs a lot.
can calmex be used for parrots
Can calmex be used for parrots with screaming problems? What will be the dosage for birds under 500gr? (African grey cockatoo)
This can be tried in parrots, but it may or may not make any difference. It is safe enough and you could give a dose of 0.1mls once or twice daily for an African Grey or a similarly sized cockatoo.
